Gulmarg, known as Gulmarg in Kashmiri and Kashmiri people pronounce it Gulmarg it means “meadow of flowers”, and is a town, hill station, tourist destination, skiing destination, and a notified area committee in Baramulla district in the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Gulmarg has been a resort for kings like Yusuf Shah Chak and Jahangir who visited frequently. The old name of Gulmarg was “Gaurimarg”, which was the name of Lord Shiva’s wife. Yusuf Shah Chak changed its name to Gulmarg, which means place of roses. In the early 20th century, the famous Central Asian explorer Sir Marc Aurel Stein (1862–1943) made his home here in a tent between his expeditions.
