US Marine helicopter with five aboard goes missing in California

The Marine Corps stated in a statement that the CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter was reported overdue when it failed to arrive at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, California, close to San Diego, on Tuesday night after taking off from Creech Air Force Base in Nevada, some 40 miles (60 km) northwest of Las Vegas.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the Civil Air Patrol, and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing were organizing a search and rescue operation, according to the Marines.
