The most numerous cells in blood are erythrocytes, commonly known as red blood cells (RBCs). These cells are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and removing carbon dioxide from the body. They are biconcave in shape and lack a nucleus, allowing them to efficiently transport gases. Red blood cells are produced in the bone marrow and have a lifespan of about 120 days before being removed by the spleen and liver.
