A “dangerous” turtle capable of gnawing through bone was discovered in Cumbria, and the veterinarians tending to it gave it an unusual moniker. Native to Florida’s rivers and marshes, alligator snapping turtles are easily identified by their armor-like shells, which give them a dinosaur-like, prehistoric appearance. Following multiple sightings, Denise Chamberlain, a parish councillor from the area, collected the freshwater reptile from the area next to Urswick Tarn. She then placed the critter in a shopping basket and brought it to a veterinarian.
